Preschool & Pre-Kindergarten Child-Centered Emergent Curriculum

The foundation of our preschool and pre-kindergarten program is a "child-centered emergent curriculum" consisting of developmentally appropriate project-based learning.  It is a curriculum in which teachers take their cues from the children, and expand upon their interests.  This is accomplished through observing what the children are doing, listening to what they are saying and documenting these observations.  Projects are then developed that have been inspired by the children.  Teachers begin to enrich their classrooms with books, music, art supplies and other materials related to the project.  As the children's interests begin to change, this process is repeated in order to keep the learning experience fresh, exciting and child-centered.  Cultural Enrichments include Spanish and Sign Language.  Pre-K is given "home activities" to complete at least two times per week.
